Five Reasons NOT to Book a Couples Session!

Yeah, you read that right, its not a mistake. Since I started photography I have gotten so many people telling me, “I love you work, I cant wait to book you when I get engaged” and it is great to hear, I mean who doesnt love recognition. But it has had me thinking, why don’t more people book just a regular couples session, no engagement needed. I mean you’re in love and you clearly okay with showing it. So, I have been tracking what couples ask me the most. Some of these are applicable to more than just couples sessions. Today I am going to tell you the top 5 reasons people don’t book couples photo sessions (and why I think they’re wrong)

  1. You aren’t engaged.

This one is the one I get the most “I want pictures with my person, but i’m worried people will think we are engaged” and to that I say. These pictures will last a life time, and they are soooo important. I have had people message me after their session and say “Hey, I’ve been with my person for 5 years and these are the only photos we have together, I love them.” So you get to show yourselves off and thats amazing and have pictures together, what the point of waiting?

Okay, I get it you don’t want all your family talking about your nonexistent engagement, but I have seen some crazy things in my time. Once you been together long enough people are just waiting for any excuse to think you’re engaged so you post pictures taken of yourself at someone else’s wedding and grandma comments “Oh congratulations!!! XOXO grandma” which sends everyone into a “WAIT! Are they engaged now?” type spiral. My point here is anyone can think you’re engaged from any photo you take, so why not have professional photos to show your love. Plus, from what I know, none of my past clients have been mistaken for engaged based on their session.

2. You don’t like to have your photo taken.

You may be surprised to hear it, but I am with you. Being in front of a camera can be a very nerve-wracking experience. 80% of my clients are people who haven’t had a photo session before, and they are worried about if it is going to be awkward. I promise you I do everything in my power to make you comfortable.

A session with me is more like a game, of course we are going to get those romantic love filled shots, but we are also going to get some laughs and real candid emotion out of you. I might tell you to sword fight with your noses, or run up from behind and “kidnap” your partner (like in the photo above). I am dedicated to making you feel comfortable in your couples session.

3. You are worried about outfits.

This is the thing I spend the most time pre-session on. You’re right to be worried about it. Your outfit can make or break your session. It doesn’t matter how good I am, if you come to the session wearing a neon orange and green vertical striped outfit and your partner comes wearing a pair of sweatpants and the shirt that smelled the least bad, there is only so much I can do. You are absolutely going to look in love, but a month later when you get your images they may be a real headache to look at.

Thats where I come in, when you book your session you get a seasonal style guide, This is a photo of the seasons best colours and styles to help you get ready, obviously if you had something in mind already I’m not going to tell you not to wear it. Instead, I am going to ask that you send me a picture of the outfits together. (we are making art so we need to know all the colours work) I make myself very available to you to ensure you are happy with the outfit you picked. I have received 10 different pictures from a client because she really couldn’t decide what looked best so we picked together.

4. You don’t think posed photos represent your relationship very well.

So you don’t think posed photos are for you? Okay. BUT… What if I tell you I am more than happy to capture you doing an activity together. Maybe you’re awesome at mini golf of you love to play board games. Maybe you like to read together or listen to records. Maybe you like to play Mario kart and eat pizza. I’m into it. If you are looking for something a little different I’d love to help, or we can do a bit of both, a little fun and a little posed (lets be serious though, It’ll all be fun)

5. You don’t know what to do with the photos.

This is by fair my favourite reason to talk about. Okay, so you did your session and now you want to know what you do with these photos other than let them sit in an email or on a USB. Thos part is the best part because you can do so much, you want an album? ill print you an album. How about some wall art? For sure, I got you covered. Maybe that doesn’t speak to you, so you get a puzzle, or an accordion book, or a view finder. Whatever your style is I am going to help you find the best products for you. Because lets be real, you’re investing in these photos, They may as well be fun to look at too!

Thanks for reading everyone, I hope ive convinced you that you need to be getting photos done, if I haven’t quite got you there you can message me and we can talk more about it, and if you’re looking to book a session I have a couple sales going on up until March 15th.
